About Mr. T. Nicholas Tyszka

CBA Lawyer Badge
As the only lawyer in Illinois to serve on the drafting committee for both of the state's prevailing residential forms and as a leader in the land title industry, Nicholas is particularly well-suited for real property disputes. With experience as both a mediator and arbitrator in the Circuit Court of Cook County, he approaches cases with the mindset that while every party wants to have their voice heard, settlement usually ends in a happier outcome than protracted and costly litigation.

Experienced transactional attorney with a practice focused primarily on advanced planning for family offices. Representative domestic and international matters include: corporate governance, structuring, taxation, alternative investment opportunities (including real property, private equity and debt, venture capital, and hedge funds), and philanthropic endeavors.

A problem-solver at his core, Nicholas has developed a reputation among his clients as being able to manage most any challenge – often becoming a quarterback of sorts for affluent families with complex legal issues. While himself adept with real estate matters and a thought leader in his practice area, Nicholas’ best skill is often managing outside resources at moments of urgent need.

• A frequent speaker on topics pertaining to real estate and title insurance, Nicholas is the only lawyer in Illinois to serve on the drafting committee for both of the prevailing residential real estate forms in our market (the Multi-Board Residential Real Estate Contract 7.0 and the Chicago Association of REALTOR® forms (Rev. 2017))
• A past vice president of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association, he has also previously served as the Chair of the Real Property Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association and as the Chair of the Real Estate Section of the DuPage County Bar Association
• One of just 110 title professionals nationally to hold the American Land Title Association’s highest designation (the “National Title Professional” or “NTP”)
• Prior to law school, spent his early career working in public relations, government affairs, and politics for national political leaders

• Holds two (2) law degrees from Loyola University Chicago, including an LL.M. in Business & Corporate Governance Law where he wrote a master’s thesis that analyzed the economic and legal environments that gave rise to the financial collapse in the United States in 2007 and 2008
• Holds two (2) degrees from the University of Notre Dame, including an undergraduate degree that was earned in just three (3) years and a graduate business degree from the Mendoza College of Business

• National Title Professional (NTP) Designation, American Land Title Association
· Since the program’s inception in 2012, this designation has been awarded to less than 140 land title professionals demonstrating knowledge, experience, and dedication essential to the safe and efficient transfer of real property. One of just 101 title professionals nationally to currently hold this active designation.
• Illinois Escrow Professional (IEP) & Illinois Title Professional (ITP) Professional (NTP) Designations, Illinois Land Title Association
• Certified Mediator, Chicago Bar Association Mediation Service
· Trained as a mediator and certified to handle Law Division Cases in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
• Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts
· Trained to analyze the financial consequences of dissolution (synthesizing knowledge of tax, insurance, retirement, and other areas of law and personal finance).
